A quick list of items nonprofits should never put in AI. Print it. Post it.

The more research I do into AI, the more convinced I am that nonprofits need immediate guardrails to protect privacy. I know we don’t all have time to create a data use policy, so I created a bite-sized list for you to print, add to, and post where staff can see of items NEVER to put into AI, especially if you are working with vulnerable populations. They are:

What NEVER goes into an AI tool:

❌ Client names

❌ Immigration status

❌ Case notes

❌ Medical information

❌ Legal status

❌ Housing situation

❌ Personal contact details

❌ Financial details about individuals

❌ Anything that could harm someone if exposed

You can write "a participant in our program" without ever typing her name into a system you don't control. A full policy covers more. But this list is your starting point.
