And they're doing it with less, less staff, less time, less budget, and less access to the technology that larger, better-resourced organizations take for granted.
Artificial intelligence is reshaping how organizations communicate, operate, and raise funds. Right now, that power is concentrating at the top. Nonprofit AI Studio exists to change that. We believe every nonprofit deserves AI training and an AI policy that protects its mission and the people it serves, and we're working to make that possible.
We help nonprofits use AI responsibly, starting with clear, customized policies that protect the people you serve. We also share free training and resources, because every organization deserves a place to start, no technical background required.
Our Founder.
I'm Carmen Tomshack, founder of Nonprofit AI Studio. I've spent more than twenty years working in and alongside nonprofits and the public sector, in operations, fundraising, communications, program management, and policy. I hold a master's degree in Public Administration from Columbia University, with a focus on policy, and I've spent my career turning complicated requirements into clear, usable guidance that real teams can actually follow.
I specialize in working with organizations addressing housing and homelessness, the environment, women's and children's issues, education, and economic development. Over the years I've raised millions of dollars for grassroots organizations, directed more than $100 million in workforce and education programs, and overseen social services for tens of thousands of families. I understand staff burnout, drowning in admin work, and struggling to juggle deadlines. I've spent much of my career working closely with client and donor data, so I understand firsthand how sensitive that information is and how much care it deserves.
The minute I first logged into ChatGPT, I saw the potential for nonprofits. I almost immediately understood that the these tools would land last in the hands of those who need it most. After some time, I also learned the dangers of using AI alongside confidential information. I learned the way AI is infected with bias. I see its environmental risks. I want to help you navigate all of this. That's the gap I built Nonprofit AI Studio to fill.
AI does not have to be a threat to mission-driven work. It's a tool, and like any tool, it's most powerful in experienced hands. I’m here to put it in yours.
