Prompt #2 in the Nonprofit AI Studio Prompt Library — Volunteer Recruitment
This is Prompt #2 in the Nonprofit AI Studio Prompt Library — a growing collection of free, tested, ready-to-use AI prompts built specifically for nonprofits.
Volunteers are the lifeblood of the nonprofit sector.
They stock the shelves. They mentor the students. They staff the events. They answer the phones. They show up week after week because they believe in what you are doing — and because someone asked them in a way that made them feel like their time and talent mattered.
That last part is where a lot of nonprofits struggle.
Writing a volunteer recruitment post that is warm, specific, and compelling takes time that most nonprofit staff simply do not have. So it gets written in a hurry, sounds generic, and fails to move people to action. Or it does not get written at all, and the organization limps along understaffed and overstretched.
AI can fix this. Quickly, easily, and for free.
Why This Prompt Second
Volunteer recruitment sits at the heart of nonprofit operations. Unlike paid staff, volunteers require a different kind of ask — one that leads with purpose and meaning rather than compensation. Getting that tone right matters enormously. A well-written recruitment post attracts people who are genuinely aligned with your mission. A generic one attracts no one.
This prompt is also completely safe from an ethical standpoint. You are not entering any client or donor information. You are simply describing your organization and the role you need filled. There is nothing sensitive here — just a clear, compelling invitation to serve.
The Prompts
We are giving you two versions — one for general volunteer recruitment and one for a specific role. Because the ask that fills your food pantry shift is different from the ask that finds your next board member.
✂️ COPY THIS PROMPT — Volunteer Recruitment — General

Volunteering with us is a chance to [DESCRIBE THE EXPERIENCE OR IMPACT]. The tone should be warm, welcoming, and inspiring — not corporate or formal. Keep it under 150 words and end with a clear call to action."
✂️ COPY THIS PROMPT — Volunteer Recruitment — Specific Role
"Write a volunteer recruitment post for [YOUR ORGANIZATION NAME]. Our mission is [ONE SENTENCE ABOUT WHAT YOU DO]. We are looking for a volunteer to [SPECIFIC ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES]. This role is a great fit for someone who [DESCRIBE THE IDEAL VOLUNTEER]. Volunteering in this role means [DESCRIBE THE IMPACT]. The tone should be warm, welcoming, and inspiring — not corporate or formal. Keep it under 150 words and end with a clear call to action."

An Example — General Version
Here is what the general prompt looks like filled in for a youth mentoring organization:
"Write a volunteer recruitment post for Bright Futures Mentoring. Our mission is to connect young people in our community with caring adult mentors who help them reach their potential. We are looking for volunteers who care about youth and believe every child deserves a champion in their corner. Volunteering with us is a chance to make a real, lasting difference in a young person's life — one conversation at a time. The tone should be warm, welcoming, and inspiring — not corporate or formal. Keep it under 150 words and end with a clear call to action."
An Example — Specific Role Version
Here is the same organization using the specific role version to recruit a tutor:
"Write a volunteer recruitment post for Bright Futures Mentoring. Our mission is to connect young people in our community with caring adult mentors who help them reach their potential. We are looking for a volunteer tutor to work one on one with middle school students who are struggling with reading. This role is a great fit for someone who is patient, encouraging, and available for two hours on weekday afternoons. Volunteering in this role means watching a child go from frustrated to confident — one page at a time. The tone should be warm, welcoming, and inspiring — not corporate or formal. Keep it under 150 words and end with a clear call to action."
Paste either version into ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, or Copilot. Hit enter. Read what comes back. Then make it yours. Adjust a word that doesn't sound like you. Add a detail that is specific to your community. AI gives you a strong first draft — your voice and your passion for the work makes it real.
A Few Tips to Make It Even Better
Lead with purpose, not tasks. Volunteers are not motivated by a list of duties. They are motivated by meaning. Make sure your prompt describes the impact of the role, not just the responsibilities.
Be specific about time commitment. Vague asks get vague responses. If you know how many hours per week or month you need, include it. People are far more likely to say yes when they know exactly what they are saying yes to.
Post where your volunteers already are. Once AI drafts your recruitment post, use it everywhere — your website, social media, email newsletter, and community bulletin boards. A great post is only as effective as its distribution.
Follow up personally. When someone expresses interest, respond quickly and warmly. AI helped you get their attention. Now the human connection takes over.
The Bigger Picture
Volunteers do not just fill gaps in your staffing. They become ambassadors for your mission. They tell their friends, their colleagues, and their networks about the work you are doing. A volunteer who has a meaningful experience is one of the most powerful fundraising and recruitment tools your organization has.
It all starts with the ask. And the ask starts with the right words.
AI can help you find those words — every time, for every role, in under five minutes.
